What the AI camera actually does

A passive dashcam records video. An AI camera reads the video as it happens, decides what is worth flagging, and acts before the event becomes a claim. Two camera lenses, two AI models, one shared timeline.

Driver monitoring (DMS)

The driver-facing lens looks for the things that cause crashes long before the crash happens. Phone in hand, eyes off the road for too long, no seatbelt, signs of fatigue or drowsiness, smoking and eating while driving. When one of those triggers, the cab speaker issues a voice prompt. Most drivers correct the behaviour inside the same trip, which is the point: the goal is the corrected behaviour, not the punitive clip.

Road-facing AI (ADAS)

The road-facing lens watches the road and the vehicles around it. Tailgating, lane departure, forward collision risk, pedestrian proximity, unsafe following distance and sudden braking ahead. ADAS gives the driver a fraction of a second of warning, which is often the difference between a soft stop and a rear-ender on the M1.

Automatic event recording

Frequently asked questions

Will my drivers accept AI cameras?

Most drivers settle into AI cameras inside the first month, particularly when the system is positioned as coaching rather than punishment. The cab voice alerts coach in real time, which means most issues get corrected without anyone in the office watching. Hostility usually comes from how the rollout is framed, not from the cameras themselves. The onboarding plan covers driver communication and the first 30 day coaching cadence.

Do the cameras record continuously or only on events?

Both. There is a continuous local recording on the device for trip review, and an event-triggered upload to the cloud for the things the AI flags. You can also pull a specific clip on demand from the platform if you need footage for a window the AI did not flag.

What about driver privacy?

The driver-facing camera is on while the ignition is on, which is consistent with the cab being a workplace under operating company control. Footage access is role-based on TG Online and audit-logged. We do not stream cabin video off the vehicle except on triggered events or on explicit retrieval. Specific privacy posture is part of the rollout discussion and depends on your sector.

Can I use the same cameras for insurance claims?

Yes. The HD road-facing clip plus GPS, speed and time-stamp is the evidence pack most South African insurers will accept for fault disputes and claim defence.

Do AI cameras replace ADAS hardware factory-fitted to new trucks?

No. Factory-fitted ADAS is at the truck level. Our AI cameras add the driver-facing layer, cloud storage, event sharing and coaching workflow that factory ADAS does not provide. The two work alongside each other.

Can I roll out AI cameras to part of the fleet first?

Yes. Many fleets start with their highest-risk vehicles, longest-route drivers or most-claimed-against routes, prove the workflow, then expand. Mixed fleets are normal and the platform handles the cohort comparison.
